Mochi Flavor Ideas - Get Creative!

peppermint mochi

Ready to try your hand at making homemade mochi ice cream? Then it’s decision time! Are you the chocolatey type or fruity type? Or both?! What flavor combinations will you use? Really, the sky is the limit when it comes to flavors. The options are only limited to your favorite ice creams. Use our ideas here, or feel free to get even more creative.

But first, a few other tips:

  • Use regular firm ice cream! PLEASE! If you use a gelato or anything softer than traditional ice cream, it is very difficult to handle and assemble mochi ice cream.
  • We tend to favor pints of Haagen Daz and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, as the quality and flavors don’t disappoint, but anything firm works!
  • Lastly, while the mochi outer later is great just as is, it doesn’t take much to be colorful. Just add a dash of powder, jam or food coloring to your liking (natural food coloring works great!).

Without further ado, here are some mochi ice cream flavor ideas for your consideration:

HOLIDAY EDITIONS
Coming Soon!

We'll be sharing some of our favorite festive mochi ice cream creations soon... like the fun Candy Cane Mochi pictured above! Valentine's is almost here, but we just recovered from Elf on the Shelf and Christmas cookies galore. And, we JUST caught up on holiday orders after some serious bittersweet backorders on the new DIY Mochi Kit.

We started working on the DIY Mochi Kit about a year ago. We had so much fun creating and testing the kit, we knew others would enjoy trying their hand at mochi ice cream too. But, as with any new kit, even if the data and gut feelings support it, you just never know how the world will respond. Well, we are happy to report that the DIY Mochi Kit far exceeded any expectations and projections. Over the holidays, this newbie kit quickly became our best-seller, of all time. The demand was far greater than the supply, a bittersweet problem that we haven't been "lucky" enough to experience to date. We produced as much as we could, as fast as we could, but it was still not enough. Let's just say we are already preparing for this year's holiday season!
