Small Business Saturday

Held the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is a national holiday to celebrate and support the little guys. As a small business and entrepreneur, it’s a special day for me. Being a small business owner is no easy feat… more like a roller coaster of the highest highs and lowest lows. You know what keeps me going on those lowest low days? SUPPORT. It comes in many forms, and I’m so incredibly grateful. Maybe it’s no coincidence that THANKSgiving and Small Business Saturday are the same week!

First, you need to know there’s a financial benefit for shopping small and local that directly affects you. Tax dollars from small businesses stay within the local economy, helping to improve the community. Small businesses also tend to buy locally as well, which also helps with economic development.

There’s a slew of other reasons to #ShopSmall. Small local businesses also tend to be involved with the community (I’m proud to report that Global Grub has been donating to the Alameda County Community Food Bank for 5 years now). Small businesses also help create local jobs, define a town’s character and build a sense of community. I could go on, but…

For me, when you support my small business, you’re supporting my lifelong dream of being an entrepreneur and my mission to spread the joy of global cooking. 5 years ago, I started Global Grub because I knew there was a better way to enjoy global cooking by mitigating the common barriers (time, ingredients, confidence, etc). Global Grub’s DIY global cooking kits help with the recipe and sourcing of pantry ingredients. The rest is up to the home cook – add their favorite fresh ingredients to “make it theirs”, and roll up their sleeves to create extraordinary home-cooked, handcrafted meals. Ultimately, what I am selling is new cooking adventures.

Like I said, support comes in many forms. Sales aside, there’s a million other ways. If a customer takes the time to use my product and feels compelled enough to reach out with feedback, it truly makes my day. If they tell me they had a blast or they loved their home-cooked meal, it keeps me going on those tough days. If they have suggestions for improvement, that is also priceless, helping me evolve and grow. Simpler things like sharing with friends or participating on one of our social media channels are a great form of support too. It all leads to spreading awareness of Global Grub, which translates to growing my small business and keeping my dream alive and healthy. And for that, I cannot thank you enough :)
