sofi awards Global Grub Jerk Chicken Coconut Rice Beans Kit

Global Grub is proud to announce that their Jerk Chicken with Coconut Rice & Beans Kit has been named a finalist in the 2013 annual sofiTM Awards from the Specialty Food Association.

A sofi Award is the top honor in the $86 billion specialty food industry. The coveted “sofi” award stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation.

Global Grub’s Jerk Kit is one of 125 food product finalists selected from a record high of 2,573 entries (across 32 categories). Finalists were determined by specialty food experts, including judges from Whole Foods, Dean and Deluca and the O Magazine, to name a few. Gold Winners will be announced by noted celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson at a red-carpet ceremony at next week’s Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.

No matter where one lives, their wanderlust and palate have a passport to travel around the world, one meal at a time. Inspired by journeys around the world and in the kitchen, Global Grub’s founder, Carley Sheehy is determined to make international cooking enjoyable and accessible for everyone through her DIY ethnic cooking kits. “We’re always so thankful when we receive rave reviews from our customers. But as a startup food maker, we’re literally jumping for joy about receiving such a high honor and recognition from The Specialty Food Association,” said Carley. “The Jerk Kit is our bestseller, and so perfect for grilling season.” Along with the sofi Award-nominated Jerk Kit, Global Grub has DIY cooking kits for Sushi Rolls, Red Chili Tamales and Tagine and Couscous, currently sold at specialty shops in the San Francisco Bay Area and online through the Global Grub website: GlobalGrub.com

“Specialty food makers bring craft, care and joy to the foods they create. To be honored with a sofi Award nomination means the product truly stands out above the rest,” says Specialty Food Association President Ann Daw.

The sofi Awards are open to members of the Specialty Food Association, a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952 for food artisans, importers and entrepreneurs with more than 3,000 members in the U.S. and abroad.
